11 March 2015, Nirapad News: Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) has called for facing any information technology (IT)-related dispute legally, instead of making unseemly remarks on the social sites.
In a press release Tuesday, BASIS executive director Sami Ahmed made the call saying that Mustafa Jabbar, proprietor of Bangla typing software Bijoy, is getting ‘indecent comments and threats’ on social sites and online portal in such a recent row.
Quoting media reports and social sites, Mr Ahmed said that two apps, made partially copying patented keyboard layout of Bijoy, were earlier uploaded on the Google Play store; later, on request of Mr Jabbar, Google authority removed those from its play store.
Since the removal, Mr Jabbar is getting threats, Mr Ahmed said, adding that such incidents are not positive for the IT sector.
As Mr Jabbar patented Bijoy software, nobody should copy it fully or partially and distribute the same commercially or even free.
At the same time, BASIS laid stress on protecting the copyright for the sake of development of the industry.
It, however, assured of standing by those, who are relentlessly working for expansion of the Bangla usage on their own initiatives.
The BASIS also drew attention of the authorities concerned to enforce the patent law and protect copyright of software products and services.
