BCB chief hints at conspiracy
6 October 2015, Nirapad News: Security threat in Bangladesh creates some complexities over the cricket here. After Australia Test team, South African Women Cricket Team also postponed the tour of Bangladesh concerning the security issue. And Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon smells conspiracy on this issue.
Talking to the media on Monday he said, “I think there is of course some sort of conspiracy. Otherwise that was not supposed to happen. I think this is a conspiracy of any local people. It is unknown to me that it has any connection to abroad or not. There is a less possibility to do that with cricket. Because, cricket can be used temporarily. Then what will they do, suppose Bangladesh will tour anywhere.”
He also said, “This is not a conspiracy of cricket board. I can ensure that. I do not think Bangladesh Cricket is the target.”
The next meeting of ICC will be held on October 9 and Nazmul Hasan Papon will talk to other board about the issue and ICC has to play an important role to solve the situation.
Papon said, “We still believe Bangladesh is not a militant country. Nothing happen here for which playing cricket should be stopped. But the matter cannot be solved though the discussion of CEO level. I will talk to all countries in the ICC meeting. ICC has to play an important role here.”
He also said he was confident that there would no problem if Australia toured Bangladesh.
About his task in next ICC meeting he said, “In ICC my main task will be make them understand that the situation of Bangladesh is not like that for which play should be stopped. Threats are everywhere in the world but the game should not be stopped for that. We have to find a solution to play despite having threats. We have to make it understandable to ICC.”
He also mentioned there is no chance to consider Bangladesh as weak in ICC. Papon hoped all board will accept his request but that will not be easy.
Though two teams postponed Bangladesh tour, Papon thinks this is not a big damage for the Bangladesh cricket but harmful for the country.
He said, “This is a big loss for us. Their mindset has been changed and that is the loss. This is not a big loss for cricket. It is temporary. But this is harmful for the country.”
Papon thinks if they ask for compensation Australia will pay it immediately but they do not want money. They want Australia to come and play with us.
The matter of postponing tour also afflicted the Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina.
Regarding that Papon said, “It is a matter of sorrow for PM. She cannot believe that cricket will not be played in Bangladesh. All knows how much she likes cricket. The matter saddens her. Like us, she also believes the matter will be solved soon. And cricket will back to our country like before.”
