BD announces 15-member squad for the 2015 World Cup : Mashrafe captain
Nirapad News : Allrounder Soumya Sarkar has been named in Bangladesh’s 15-member squad for the 2015 World Cup, which also includes fast bowler Taskin Ahmed and left-arm spinner Taijul Islam. Mashrafe Mortaza will lead the side while Shakib Al Hasan has been named vice-captain.
Sarkar, who made his international debut against Zimbabwe in December last year, is one of the leading run-getters in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division competition, where he has scored four fifties and a century in 15 matches of the tournament so far.
Bangladesh’s chief selector, Faruque Ahmed had stated last week that the panel would opt for experience in the squad and players with the experience of a few international games would be considered. Of the 15-man squad, Sarkar, Taijul and Sabbir Rahman made their ODI debuts in the home series against Zimbabwe in November-December last year.
Ahmed had also stated that the squad would have four pace bowlers and those spots have been taken up by Mashrafe, Taskin Ahmed, Al-Amin Hossain and Rubel Hossain.
