BD-Bhutan secy-level meet Tuesday
01 December 2015, Nirapad News: A two-day Commerce Secretary-level meeting between Bangladesh and Bhutan begins here on Tuesday, which is expected to focus on connectivity, transit and electricity import from Bhutan.
The meeting, the fourth of its kind, will be held at Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI), said a senior Commerce Ministry official on Monday.
Senior Secretary of the Commerce Ministry Hedayetullah Al Mamoon will lead 17-member Bangladesh delegation while Economic Affairs Secretary Dasho Yeshi Wangdi will lead a 10-member Bhutanese side.
Market access, hydropower cooperation, transit (under BBIN initiative), infrastructure development of ports, easing LC opening process, removing tariff and non-tariff barriers and easing visa process are likely to be discussed at the meeting.
The meeting will also review the progress of the decisions taken at the last meeting held in Thimphu in April last year.
Bangladesh has a plan to import 10,000 megawatt of electricity from Bhutan.
