BD, Kuwait agree on broad spectrum of economic cooperation

05 May 2016, Nirapad News: A bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah in progress at the former’s office in the capital on Wednesday. — PID Bangladesh and Kuwait Wednesday reached a consensus to further expand cooperation in the fields of economy, investment, trade, energy, manpower, military and ICT, reports UNB.
Both the countries pledged to work together against the twin dangers presented by terrorism and extreme violence to the Muslim community worldwide.

The consensus came during the officials talks between the two countries held at the Prime Minister’s Office this afternoon.

Visiting Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah led the Kuwaiti side, while the Bangladesh side was headed by Premier Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier, the two leaders had a tete-e-tete for about 15 minutes at the same place.

Briefing the reporters after the official talks, Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque said that the official talks were held in a very warm and cordial environment quoting the Kuwaiti Prime Minister as saying,

“The visit will open a new horizon of cooperation.” PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim was also present on the occasion.

During the talks, Shahidul Haque said, the two premiers pointed out their “zero tolerance policy” against terrorism and extreme violence saying these are against humanity and contrary to the solidarity of the Muslim Ummah.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh and Kuwait inked Wednesday four agreements in different fields, including investment, military cooperation and road communications.

The instruments were signed after the official talks between visiting Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s Office here in the afternoon.

The two prime ministers witnessed the signing of the agreements.

Kuwaiti Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Bader Hamad Al-Essa and Industries Minister of Bangladesh Amir Hossain Amu signed ‘The Agreement for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investment’ on behalf of their respective sides.

“This agreement will open up a new door for investment in Bangladesh,” Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque told a press briefing after the signing of the instruments.

Kuwaiti Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Ambassador Khaled Sueliman Al-Jarallah and Bangladesh Home Ministry Senior Secretary Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan inked ‘The Agreement on Mutual Exemption of Prior Entry Visa for Holders of Diplomatic, Special and Official Passports’.

The agreement between Bangladesh and Kuwait on Cooperation in Military Fields of Training and other areas was signed by Kuwaiti Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Ambassador Khaled Sueliman Al-Jarallah and Principal Staff Office of the Armed Forces Division of Bangladesh Lt Gen Md Mahfuzur Rahman.

The loan agreement between the government of Bangladesh and Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) for Financing of Paira Bridge Project was inked by Director General of KFAED Abdulwahab Al-Badar and Economic Relations Division (ERD) Additional Secretary Mahmuda Begum.

It is the 2nd loan agreement in favour of the Paira Bridge Project. Under this deal, the Kuwait Fund will provide a loan amounting to 15 million Kuwaiti Diner equivalents to $ 50 million. Earlier, a loan agreement was also signed with KFAED on March 13, 2012 for 14 million Kuwaiti Diner equivalents to $ 48 million.
