BD U-19 team easy win in 1st Youth ODI
10 November 2015, Nirapad News: Bangladesh Under-19 team took 1-0 lead in the four-match youth ODI series when they recorded an overwhelming five-wicket victory over visiting Zimbabwe U-19 team in the first youth ODI held on Tuesday at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
Put to bat first, Zimbabwe faced serious batting debacle and finally dismissed at a paltry total of 145 in 49.1 overs with opener J Ives top scoring with 41 runs and middle order W Mashinge added 38 for the visitors.
Saleh Ahmed Shawon and Ariful Islam were the pick of Bangladesh bowlers taking three wickets each for 19 and 23 runs respectively. They were well supported by M Saifuddin who captured two wickets giving away 32 runs.
Chasing a facile target of 146 runs set by Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, rode on skipper Mehedi Hasan Miraz and opener Saif Hasan’s brilliant half centuries, made a cake walk victory reaching the destination for the loss of five wickets with 115 balls remaining.
Miraz played an impressive knock of 65-run off 73-ball laced with eight boundaries while opener Saif contributed 51-run off 80-ball that studded four boundaries.
Spinner William Mashinge captured all the five Bangladesh wickets conceding 27 runs and he was later named the player of the match.
The 2nd, 3rd and 4th ODI matches between the two sides will be held on November 12, 14 and 16 at the same venue.
