Bernicat meets Foreign Secretary; no info about Kerry’s Dhaka visit yet
12 March 2015, Nirapad News: US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat on Wednesday said they do not have any information about the visit of US Secretary of State John Kerry to Bangladesh at this moment.
“At this time we don’t have any information about the Secretary of State is coming,” she told reporters after her meeting Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque in the evening.
She, however, said Secretary Kerry wants to come to Bangladesh.” I assure you, the moment we know, within five minutes you’ll know.”
Responding to a question about her discussion with the Foreign Secretary in the nearly two-hour meeting, Bernicat said they discussed the whole range of issues at the meeting.
On February 19, Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali had a meeting with Kerry at the US Department of State and discussed a wide range of Bangladesh-US bilateral relations.
When the Foreign Minister invited his counterpart to visit Bangladesh, John Kerry responded ‘very positively’ and said he would love to take the visit at the ‘earliest opportunity. However, the time and date of the visit have not been fixed.
According to the US Department of State, Secretary of State John Kerry will travel to Egypt and Switzerland on March 12 and March 15 respectively.
