BFUJ demands 9th wage board for journos
21 December 2015, Nirapad News: Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) today demanded immediate formation of the ninth Wage Board for enhancement of salary scales for journalists and other workers of the newspaper industry.
“We demand immediate formation of the new wage board . . . it appears urgently essential for our survival,” outgoing BFUJ president Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul said.
He simultaneously asked the government to introduce a separate salary structure for the electronic media journalists and workers as well.
The demand was floated as the outgoing BFUJ executive committee handed over the charge to the newly elected body of the apex forum of the journalists with Altaf Mahmud being its president and Omar Faruque as secretary general.
Prime Minister’s media affairs advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Altaf Mahmud, Omar Faruque, outgoing BFUJ secretary general Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, outgoing treasurer Khairu-Zzaman Kamal, vice president Chittagang Division Shahidul Alam, general secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Quddus Afrad, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury urged the journalists to remain united and maintain discipline in all the media organizations.
