BGB deployed for the first time at Sholakia
12 September 2016, Nirapad News: After the terror attack during Eid-ul-Fitr in July, authorities have beefed up security for Kishoreganj’s Sholakia grounds, which hosts Bangladesh’s largest Eid congregation.
The district’s Superintendent of Police Anwar Hossain Khan said Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed for the first time at Sholakia , along with regular units of police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
On the Eid-ul-Fitr morning of July 7, a police check-post near the Sholakia Eidgah ground was attacked by terrorists.
It happened within a week of the Jul 1 Dhaka terror attack that left 22 persons killed.
Two policemen and a housewife were killed in bomb blasts and a firefight in Sholakia.
A suspected attacker was also killed.
SP Khan said their top priority was the safety for those coming to the Sholakia congregation.
“A three-tier security arrangement has been worked out and for the first time three BGB platoons have been deployed.”
Kishoreganj-based RAB-14 chief Major Nazmul Arefin said their men will be posted at all the entrances of the ground as well as on roofs of all adjacent buildings.
“We are sweeping the whole area regularly for explosives and bombs and conducting intensive surveillance operations,” he said.
