‘BGB first resisted Pakistani force’
20 December 2015, Nirapad News: The then border security force, presently named Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), had first build shield against Pakistani occupation force in the war of independence in response to the call of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also mentioned that the 220-year-old border security force has a proud and rich history. During liberation war of Bangladesh, the role of BGB (the then EPR) is appraisable.
She was addressing a program on BGB Day-2015 at Philkhana in the city on Sunday.
The premier said that in the early hours of March 26 in 1971, East Pakistan Rifles (EPR) Betar staff telecast the Declaration of Independence by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from Pilkhana.
Pakistani forces killed three members of the EPR, including Subedar Major Shawkat Ali, for announcing declaration of independence through wireless, she added.
