Biman announced flights on 5 additional domestic routes
19 February 2015, Nirapad News: Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Thursday announced that, a major expansion in its flight operations on domestic routes are to be effective from April 6. In addition to increasing the frequency of the existing fights in domestic routes between Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet, the national carrier will start flights between Dhaka and five domestic stations – Cox’s Bazar, Jessore, Rajshahi, Syedpur and Barisal. The airlines previously had services to some of these points but they were suspended due to equipment constraints.
In a statement, the airlines said that with effect from 6 April, it will operate six flights to Cox’s bazar, five to Jessore, three to both Rajshahi and Syedpur and two to Barisal per week. Furthermore, it will add up to 25 additional flights per week on Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet routes.
Recently acquired 74- seat Dash8-Q400 aircraft will be put on additional flights. The existing flights by other types of aircraft on Chittagong and Sylhet routes will continue reflecting the market demand. In total, the airlines will see massive growth in flights within Bangladesh, operating over 120 flights per week. The total number of seats will grow almost 80% weekly to 14,010. The additional flights and new destinations will be open for sale on 25 February. The airlines will release its pricing structure and launch promotional offers at the same time.
Kyle Haywood, Managing Director and CEO of the airlines said ‘these are considerable positive improvements to the schedule that we will offer to current and new customers flying domestically. In connecting even more cities by air within the country, it will support the growing business and leisure travel markets’.
“Our customers will have much more choice as to where they fly and when they fly with the introduction of these new destinations and higher frequency on existing routes. Furthermore, customers connecting with our international network can now enjoy a seamless travel experience to and from more cities in Bangladesh and international destinations”, he said.
