Bimstec countries to hold talks Monday
16 March 2015, Nirapad News: Senior officials of Bimstec member countries will sit together in Dhaka on Monday to finalize a draft deal on Bimstec grid interconnections for electricity trade and promoting power transmission in the best possible way.
Bimstec (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) is a regional organisation comprising seven member states lying in the littoral and adjacent areas of the Bay of Bengal constituting a contiguous regional unity.
This sub-regional organisation came into being on June 6, 1997 through the Bangkok Declaration. The officials of the member states at the 5th meeting of the Bimstec Task Force on Trans Power Exchange and Development will have an in-depth discussion on a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the day, officials said.
