BNP leader Altaf’s motorcade attacked in Patuakhali
22 December 2015, Nirapad News: Former Home Minister and BNP leader Altaf Hossain Chowdhury’s motorcade came under attack by miscreants during electioneering for the ensuing municipality polls at Rahmatpur in Kalapara upazila on Tuesday morning.
The attackers hurled brickbats and stones at his motorcade as he was going to Rahmatpur to conduct a mass contact in favour of BNP-supported mayoral candidate Hazi Humayun Shikder at about 10:00 am,
Seven people, including the BNP leader’s wife Begum Suraiya Akter Chowdhury, received injuries in the attack.
Among them were also two journalists of Boishakhi and Jamuna television channels.
The attackers also vandalised six microbuses of the motorcade.
Informed, police rushed in and chased off the attackers.
However, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury escaped unhurt.
Officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Kalapara Police Station Monir Hossain confirmed the incident.
Additional policemen were deployed to avert further trouble in the area.
