BNP makes fun with nation: Hanif

20 March 2016, Nirapad News: Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, joint general secretary of the Awami League, today said BNP has made fun with the nation and itself over its national council.

“We know that leaders are elected in the national council of any party. But, candidates for top two posts in BNP were selected well before its national council. In that case, the BNP councillors had not been allowed to exercise their power (authority). In reality, they (BNP) cut a joke with the nation and themselves in the name of holding its national council,” he said.

Hanif said this at a press briefing while announcing the names of party candidates in the third phase of the ensuing Union Parishad (Council) polls at the political office of Awami League president Sheikh Hasina at Dhanmondi in the city.

He announced names of some 609 chairman candidates of the party in the UP polls. However, names of party candidates in 14 UPs have not been announced, they will be disclosed later.

In reply to a question on Awami League’s not attending the BNP council, Hanif said, “Why should we go to see a fun? There was no interest in the party itself over the council. Neither there was any interest of any other political party. So, it would not be logical for any Awami League representative to attend their council.”

About Khaleda Zia’s announcement of vision-2030, the AL leader said, “What sort of vision she announced? She indulged in corruption and patronised terrorism while in power. In the name of action programme like siege, she unleashed fire-terrorism from 2009 to 2014 while she was out of power.”

He said that guided by Pakistani ideologies, Begum Zia tried to save the war criminals but she never repented and sought apology to the nation for her misdeeds.

“In the prevailing situation, whether she announced vision-2030 or 2040 was not a matter at all,” Hanif added.

AL joint general secretary Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, organising secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim and office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap were also present among others.
