BNP sets conditions on Khaleda’s court appearance
03 March 2015,Nirapad News: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia may appear in court on Wednesday in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust cases if she gets proper security and assurance of her return to Gulshan office from the government.
Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, a senior pro-BNP lawyer and adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia told journalists on Tuesday.
“If the government gives proper security of Khaleda Zia to appear before the court and if it is also ensured that she will be returned to her Gulshan office, then she may appear before it,” said Mahbub. “We are always respectful to the laws of the country,” he added.
However, Khaleda’s lawyer Sanaullah Miah, told the press on Monday that she might not appear before the court on Wednesday as there is a security concern.
On February 25, a Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against Khaleda in two graft cases, cancelling the time petition filed by her lawyer.
Khaleda last attended trial proceedings on December 24, the day clashes broke out between police, supporters of the BNP and supporters of the ruling Awami League in the Bakshibazar area of the capital.
A Dhaka court earlier issued a search warrant for Khaleda’s Gulshan office, where she has been residing since January 3, to search it for explosives and a communication device that police claim Khaleda is using to coordinate the countrywide sabotage. Police sources said they had not yet received a copy of the warrant.
Moreover, the hearing on two petitions filed by BNP lawyer Sanaullah Mia seeking the withdrawal of the arrest warrant issued against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will be held on Wednesday.
Dhaka Special Judge’s Court 3 passed the order on Tuesday afternoon. The hearing will be held at the Alia Madrasha ground in the Old Dhaka.
Earlier in the day, Sanaullah filed the petitions with the court.
