BNP’s decision moves fair polls possible under present govt: Nasim
28 November 2015, Nirapad News: Awami League Presidium Member and Health Minister Mohammad Nasim today said the BNP’s decision to take part in municipality elections proves that fair polls are possible under the present government.
“We want to see people’s position regarding the BNP in the upcoming municipality polls. The people will not vote for anti-liberation forces. They will vote for the Awami League,” he said speaking as the chief guest at a commemorative meeting marking the 25th death anniversary of Shaheed Dr. Milon at Dhaka Medical College in the city.
Mohammad Nasim paid tributes to the memory of Dr. Milon and said the democratic movement in 1990 took a final shape through his supreme sacrifice.
He called upon all to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to implement the objective behind Milon’s sacrifice.
Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Joint Secretary General Dr. Shamsul Alam Khan Milon was gunned down on November 27, 1990.
Presided over by BMA President Dr. Mahmud Hassan, the meeting was also addressed by Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Milon’s mother Selina Aktar, Awami League leader Dr. Badiuzzaman, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Kamal Hassan Khan and Ganotantri Party leader Shahadat Hossain, among others.
Hasanul Haq Inu said democracy has been salvaged in the country in exchange of Milon’s blood.
He said democracy would be established in the country after elimination of militancy.
The information minister said there is no scope to see separately BNP chief Khaleda Zia and militancy. The current challenge is to face Begum Zia and her allies, he added.
Selina Aktar sought trial of Milon’s killers.
