Body formed to probe Tongi train accident
15 April 2018, Nirapad News: A three-member investigation committee headed by Bangladesh Railway Chief Engineer (East) Md Arifuzzaman has been formed to probe the derailment of a train in Tongi that left three people dead on Sunday.
“The committee has been urged to submit report in three-working days. Actions will be taken against the responsible persons on basis of the report”, Railways Minister Mujibul Haque said while addressing a press conference after visiting the accident site.
The minister assured of giving monetary assistance to the family members of the deceased and to bear costs of medical treatment of the injured.
Director General of Bangladesh Railway Md Amzad Hossain, Gazipur Superintendent of Police (SP) Harun-or-Rashid and senior officials of the Railway Ministry were present in the press conference, among others.
Five bogies of a Dhaka-bound ‘Commuter Train’ from Jamalpur veered off the rail track in Notun Bazar area of Tongi at noon, leaving three passengers, who were travelling on its roof, dead on the spot and 20 others injured.
