Boishakh celebration part of religiosity: Inu
12 April 2016, Nirapad News: Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, today said the celebration of Bengali New Year, Pohela Boishakh, is not in conflict with Islam, neither is it vulgar.
He was addressing a rally at the Central Shaheed Minar organized by Bangalee Shangskritik Jote.
Inu said people belonging to same faith but living in different countries have their distinctive languages and cultures.
“Loving one’s own culture was part of patriotism and patriotism was part of the faith. Therefore, celebrating Bengali New Year was not vulgar,” the minister said.
He said that Bangladesh will progress on its own cultural path and confront militancy, communalism and war crimes.
Inu said the culture of Bangladesh was created by Lalon and other mystics, Tagore and Nazrul, Shamsur Rahman and others. “It comprises Bengalis, Santals and Chakmas. It celebrates Eid, Puja, Christmas and Buddha Purnima along with 21st February, Independence and Victory Days and Bengali New Year,” he said.
The meeting was presided by the president of the Jote, Saiful Azam Bashar.
