Building skilled manpower through ICT uses stressed

21 December 2015, Nirapad News: Speakers at a view-sharing meeting mentioned the skilled manpower in various fields, particularly in the banking sector, could be strengthened through the best uses of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

In the present competitive era, they viewed ICT promotion in the banking sector is very important but generating more competent human resources is the precondition to make the sector profitable through successful application of the modern technology.

The observation came in a banking related discussion when Deputy Governor of the Bangladesh Bank Abu Hena Razi Hassan made a courtesy call on Prof Dr Shah Nawaj Ali, Chairman of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB), at latter’s office in RAKUB headquarter here yesterday afternoon.

RAKUB Deputy Managing Director Dr Abdul Khaleque Khan, General Manager (Audit, Accounts and Recovery) Abul Kashem, General Manager (Operation) Reaz Uddin Mian, General Manager (Administration) Abdul Latif and Zonal Manager Lokeman Ali were present on the occasion.

Prof Shah Nawaj Ali told the meeting that RAKUB had formulated a work plan early in the previous fiscal and sent its direction to the field level in order to transform the bank into a profit-earning institution along with self-reliant.

After overcoming the consecutive loss in long 10 years, Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) has made operating profit worth Taka 32 crore during the 2014-15 fiscal.

Under the work plan, the bank had set the target of disbursing loan worth Taka 1,500 crore, recovering outstanding loan of Taka 1,800 crore and lowering classified loan below to 25 percent in 2014-15 fiscal.

Against the target, the bank has disbursed loan of Tk 1,536 crore,
recovered Taka 1,827 crore and reduced the classified loan to 20 percent from 35 percent. It has also mobilized deposit worth Taka 3,626 crore.

Headquartered in Rajshahi, the specialized commercial bank disbursed the huge loan through its 377 branches for boosting crop production and rural economy as well as generating employment through enhancing agricultural production in all the 16 districts under Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions.

As the largest development partner in agriculture as well as agro-based industry sector of the northwest Bangladesh, currently, the bank has adopted the effective work plan which is being implemented at the grassroots to make the credit programs easier.

Deputy Governor Abu Hena Razi Hassan urged all concerned to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty maintain the profit-making trend.
