Bumper vegetable production makes farmers happy in Joypurhat

08 November 2015, Nirapad News: Bumper winter vegetable production has brought smile on the faces of farmers of all the five upazilas in the district as they got fair price of their produce during the current season.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 5,510 hectares of land have been brought under the vegetable cultivation and 1,03,695 tonnes of vegetable were produced.

Deputy Director of DAE AZM Sabbir Ebne Zahan told that the farmers of the area were found interested in vegetable cultivation due to its demand in the country and favourable climatic conditions.

All varieties of winter vegetable have flooded different kitchen markets in the district with an excellent yield rate.

The cultivated vegetables include ladies finger, basil, bottle gourd, white gourd, sweet gourd, cucumber, brinjal, jhinga, karola, borboti, puishak, lalshak, patol and other vegetables.

Presently, the vegetable traders and middlemen have been exporting huge quantities of winter vegetables to Dhaka and other parts of the country.
