CEC ready to hold DCC polls
01 March 2015, Nirapad News: The Election Commission is ready to hold the Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporation polls on time, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad has said.
The CEC disclosed this in a press briefing at the media centre of the Election Commission in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
However, the CEC could not confirm the time of the DCC elections, and said: “We can’t say exactly when the DCC elections may be held.”
Rakibuddin said they [EC] had to talk with law enforcement agencies on whether there was a suitable environment to hold an election.
He said: “We shall hold the elections according to the schedule on time; we won’t wait for anyone, like the January 5 election.”
“The city corporation election is a non-partisan election. We hope the next election will be held fairly, with the participation of all people willing to take part,” he added.
