Charge-sheet against Khaleda Zia submitted in Jatrabari arson case
20 May 2015, Nirapad News: A charge-sheet in a case filed under Special Powers Act was submitted before the court accusing BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and 37 others relating to firebomb attacks on a passenger bus at Jatrabari on January 23.
“Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted the charge-sheet against them this evening. The charge-sheet will be formally placed before the court tomorrow,” an officer familiar to the process confirmed.
Earlier on May 7, two separate charge-sheets were submitted in two cases–one for murder and another under explosive acts — before the court against Khaleda Zia and 37 others in connection with the same incident.
Aadviser to Khaleda Zia Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, BNP standing committee member MK Anwar, joint secretary general Rizvi Ahmed, special assistant Shimul Biswas were charge-sheeted in the case.
Others who have been made accused in the case includes journalist Shawkat Mahmud, Chairperson’s media wing member Maruf Kamal, Barkatullah Bulu, Amanullah Aman, Mir Sharafat Ali Shapu, Habibunabi Khan Sohel, Azizul Bari Helal and Nabiullah Nabi.
According to the charge-sheets BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been named as the mastermind of the crime.
On January 23, a passenger bus of Glory Paribahan was came under firebomb attacks near Matuail Council Office on Demra Road at Jatrabari on January 23 at night during a nationwide blockade enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance.
At least 31 passengers of the bus received burn injuries. One of them died the next day at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
