Chittagong University’s shuttle train torched; 1 injured
08 March 2015, Nirapad News: Miscreants torched a shuttle train of Chittagong University (CU) and hurled a powerful bomb at it in the port city amid the nationwide non-stop transport blockade and hartal enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance on Saturday night.
A garments worker was injured in the incident that took place in Chittagong’s Sholoshohor area. Sholoshohor Rail Station Master AAKM Farhaduzzaman said a group of unknown people swooped on the train at night.
They poured petrol on a compartment of the train and set it afire when the train that runs between the port city and the CU campus in Hathazari from morning to evening, stopped in Sholoshohor Rail Station. He said, the miscreants then hurled a bomb at the train.
Hearing the blast, the officers and staff of the rail station and police rushed to the spot, the station master said. The fire was bought under control half-an-hour later. Police identified the injured garment worker as Md Sumon, 18, who was waiting on the platform for a train during the arson attack. He was rescued and rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
A compartment of the train was burnt. CMCH police outpost’s Nayek Arab Ali said Sumon was injured by splinters of the bomb that went off on the platform.
