Coast Guard Bill, 2016 placed in JS
25 January 2016, Nirapad News: A bill with a proposal to form a paramilitary force named coast guard was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad today to protect the sovereignty of Bangladesh’s geographical area as well as preventing crimes and establishing rights of its maritime resources.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today introduced the bill titled “Bangladesh Coast Guard Bill, 2016 in the House.
Placing the bill, the minister said, if it gets parliament’s approval, the law would help control crimes in Bangladesh maritime areas, river routes and coastal belts and establish rights on our maritime resources as well.
It would also help prevent intrusion into the country’s offshore areas and ensure security of onshore areas adjacent to the sea.
Earlier, the Cabinet approved the “Bangladesh Coast Guard Bill, 2015 on September 13, 2015, as the home ministry placed the draft before the cabinet to replace the Bangladesh Coast Guard Act 1994.
The bill was later sent to the parliamentary standing committee of the ministry of Home Affairs for scrutiny and report back in the House by the next within 20 days.
