Cops’ negligence found in death of tea seller
07 February 2016, Nirapad News: An investigation committee has found policemen’s negligence relating to death of tea seller the city’s Mirpur area.
A concerned police official told bdnews24.com that the policemen’s negligence was found.
Deputy commissioner Tutul Chakrabarty on Sunday submitted the investigation report.
After being severely burnt at the tea stall at Gudara ghat area of Mirpurt under Sha Ali thana, tea seller Babul Matabbar died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
The Victim’s family claims that police hit kerosene stove of Babul’s tea stall as he refused to give toll. Babul caught fire from kerosene of the stove, and around 95 of his body was burnt.
Denying the allegation, Shah Ali thana insists that Babul was burnt as he was fleeing after seeing police source, not police. Police also say Babul was a drug peddler.
Meanwhile, four policemen including Officer-in-Charge of Shah Ali thana were withdrawn. Four policemen were temporarily suspended.
