Counter, buses torched in Sylhet
03 October 2015, Nirapad News: A bus counter and three buses of Hanif Enterprise were torched early Saturday following the deaths of the wife and son of a Sylhet district Awami League leader in a road accident.
Local sources said, District AL’s joint publicity secretary Mustak Ahmed’s wife Mursheda Begum, 40, son Mehedi Hasan, and four others were killed in a road accident that took place on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Jalalpur in Nabiganj of Habiganj district on Friday.
As the news spread, leaders and activists of Chhatra League, Jubo League and Awami League gathered at the bus station and staged demonstration.
At one stage, they vandalized the bus counter and set fire on it. They also torched three buses at 2:00am.
On information, police and fire fighters rushed to the spot and took the situation under control.
Officer in-charge of Dhakkhin Surma Police Station Ataur Rahman confirmed the incident.
