Country to be poverty-free by 2021: Muhith
17 April 2016, Nirapad News: Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith today said that although the UN has announced 2030 to be the year when poverty would come down to 10 per cent, globally, Bangladesh would achieve the feat by 2021.
The minister was speaking as chief guest at a mass reception held in his honour for receiving the Independence Award this year.
Muhith further said that after achieving the desired target of 10-11 per cent below poverty line there would be no poverty as some people like the elderly, physically challenged and marginalized would always have to be supported by the state.
He also thanked the people of Sylhet for extending cooperation to all his initiatives.
The meeting was chaired by former mayor and current president of district Awami League Badruddin Ahmed Qamran. Other local leaders and eminent residents of Sylhet also spoke at the meeting.
