Court orders Tarique Rahman to appear on March 4
24 February 2015, Nirapad News: The Dhaka Special Court-3 on Wednesday asked BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman to appear before it on March 4 in Zia Charitable and Orphanage Trust, graft cases.
The judge, Abu Ahmed Jamadar, passed the order asking Tarique’s lawyer advocate Sanaullah Mia to produce his client before it on the day.
Earlier in the day, the court also issued arrest warrant against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and two others – former BNP lawmaker Kazi Salimul Haque and businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed in the graft cases.
The ACC in July 2009 filed the Zia Orphanage graft case against Khaleda, Tarique Rahman and four others for embezzling over Tk 2.1 crore through the “fake” trust.
Tarique has been in London since September 11, 2008 on medical grounds after securing parole in various cases. He faces 14 charges, of which four including the August 21 grenade attack cases are on trial while the rest are stayed.
Recently, he made derogatory comments against Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman while delivering speeches in different programmes in London. A dozen cases were filed against Tarique for making such comments.
