The minister came up with the apprehension after inaugurating the first year MBBS class for session 2020-21 held at BCPS auditorium in city’s Mahakhali.

At present, infection rate is low in country’s northern region while it is stable in the central region, but is on rise in east zone that means in Cumilla, he said adding that but, there was no scope for increasing beds in the hospitals.

Informing that one crore people will be brought under vaccination within next one week, minister Zahid Maleque said,”Vaccine camps will be held from August 7.

A mass vaccination will start at the union level on August 7 and elderly people who do not have NID cards will be able to get vaccinated, said Maleque.

There will be no need to get registered for vaccination, only voter ID card is needed, he said.

Those do not have ID card, would get vaccine shots at special arrangements, the minister assured, saying that the government was planning to bring pregnant women under the vaccination progamme.
