Covid vaccination begins at 5 hospitals

The coronavirus vaccination programme has started at five hospitals in the capital.

Hundreds of Red Crescent members are performing their duties to make the vaccination programme a success.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University authorities started the campaign at 9am on Thursday where Vice Chancellor Prof Kanak Kanti Barua was the first recipient.

After receiving the vaccine shot, he said, “It’s my social, national and personal responsibility to take the vaccine.”

The BSMMU is the second centre which launched the vaccination campaign after Kurmitola General Hospital.

Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the programme, which aims to vaccinate for 20 per cent of the country’s population that means for 3.40 crore people, with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine- Covidshield, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.

Runu Veronica Costa, a senior nurse of the Kurmitola General Hospital, was the first vaccine recipient.
