Deal signed for consultancy job of 61 bridges
02 March 2016, Nirapad News: The Road Transport and Bridges Ministry on Wednesday signed an agreement with a joint venture of four companies for the consultancy job to construct some 61 small and big bridges under the Western Bangladesh Bridge Improvement Project (WBBIP).
Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department Ibne Alam Hasan and Project Director of Oriental Consultant Company Ltd, Japan Tomoyuki Fukushima signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides at the Sarak Bhaban.
The 61 bridges will be constructed in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna, Barisal and Gopalganj zones. The contract value of the consultancy job is Tk 220.23 crore.
Of the total amount of Tk 2911.75 crore of the project, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide Tk 1905.19 crore.
The three other companies of the consortium are Oriental Consultants Global Co Ltd, Japan, Katahira and Engineers International, Japan and SMEC International Pty Ltd, Australia.
Meanwhile, another agreement was also signed for elevating the 44-km road in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar district into a four-lane one at a cost of Tk 602 crore.
The four-lane road will be constructed as the link road of Matarbari coal-based power plant.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader and high officials concerned were present.
