Death of child Nirob, Writ filed seeking Tk30 lakhs as compensation
13 December 2015, Nirapad News: A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking Tk 30 lakh as compensation in connection with the death of child Nirob after falling into a manhole at Shyampur in the capital.
Children Charity Foundation, a non-government organisation, filed the writ petition on Sunday.
Writ petitioner lawyer Abdul Halim said three directives including the rule issuance have been sought in the petition.
The informations of tubewells, sewerage lines and leadless manholes under the Dhaka City Corporation have to given to the court. An investigation of the authority of the manhole in which Nirob fell into.
The court will be apprised of the steps taken by Officer-in-Charge of Kadamtali thana after the death of Nirob.
Twelve people have named as defendants in the petition.
They include the government, WASA Chairman, Mayor and Secretary of Dhaka South City Corporation, Shyampur Union Parishad Chairman, UNO and AC land of Shyampur, General Secretary of Kadamtali Shyampur Industrial Owners’ Association, Fire Service DG, Chief of Fire Service of Shyampur unit and Officer-in-Charge of Kadamtali thana.
On December 8, five-year-old boy Nirob fell into a manhole at 4pm while playing with other kids near Jagarani Club in Shyampur.
More than four hours later, firemen rescued Nirob from Senakalyan Ghat at Shyampur. Nirob was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 9pm.
