Decision on army deployment soon
19 April 2015, Nirapad News: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad said that the decision of army deployment regarding city polls will be taken soon. He made the disclosure to the media after a meeting with law enforcing agencies at National Economy Council (NEC) auditorium in city on Sunday.
According to the CEC, the Election Commission (EC) had listened to the opinions of the law enforcers. They had informed the commission that the situation is calm now. But they are asked to examine the situation carefully, he added. The decision of army deployment will be taken in one or two days after getting their opinions, he remarked.
To a question, Rakibuddin said that they have asked the army to be prepared as usually the deployment is taken place two or three days before the election.
We are carefully observing the situation and asked the home ministry to keep the peaceful environment continued, the CEC said.
Four election commissioners, EC secretary, Inspector General of Police, Rapid Action Battalion additional director general, Ansar-VDP director general, Coast Guard director general, and representatives of intelligence and home ministry, among others, were present at the meeting.
However, elections in three city corporations Dhaka (north and south) and Chittagong will be held on April 28.
