Decision on reopening of educational instts may be reviewed: Health Minister

Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday informed that the decision on reopening of educational institutes is likely to be reviewed if the Coronavirus infection rate in the country continues to rise.

“Discussion on reopening of the educational institutions is being held. The Education Ministry will take decision after discussion with the Prime Minister. It is likely to be reviewed,” he said.

The minister came up with the disclosure after attending a meeting held at the ministry’s conference room over celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 50 years of Bangladesh’s Independence.

He said the government would certainly review the matter if the virus infection rate increases.

“And if the situation remains under control, then they will take decision on their own,” the minister added.

Health secretary Abdul Mannan, Medical Education and Family Planning Secretary Ali Noor, Director General of the DGHS Prof Dr Abul Bashar M Khurshid Alam and high officials of the ministry were present.

Meanwhile, on Sunday (March 14), Technical and Madrasah Education Division of Ministry of Education issued a five-point instruction to reopen the educational institutions on March 30 as per the previous decision.

Earlier on February 27, the Education Ministry decided to reopen schools, colleges and madrasahs on March 30 while the universities on May 27 and dormitories on May 17.

But on March 12, Education Minister Dipu Moni said that the date of reopening of the educational institutions is likely to be deferred if the situation further worsens.

Meanwhile, on Sunday (March 14), Technical and Madrasah Education Division of Ministry of Education issued a five-point instruction to reopen the educational institutions on March 30 as per the previous decision.
