Dhaka Art Summit kicks off
06 February 2016, Nirapad News: The Dhaka Art Summit, the largest non-commercial platform for South Asian art, kicked off at the Shilpakala Academy in city on Friday (February 5).
The third edition of the four-day long event will end on February 8.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith graced the inaugural ceremony of the summit as chief guest.
Cultural minister Asaduzzaman Nur, civil aviation minister Rashed Khan Menon, Shilpakala Academy director Liakat Ali Lucky, Sadmani Art Foundation chairman and co-founder Nadia Samdani, management committee member Faruk Sobhan were also present as special guests.
The biennial event is featuring new major works by artists such as Lynda Benglis, Simryn Gill, Haroon Mirza, Dayanita Singh, and John Giorno, who in the 70s, traveled through what is now Bangladesh with fellow poet Allen Ginsberg.
Around 600 artists, including 70 Bangladeshis, from different countries of the world are partaking in the art summit.
