Dhaka, Ottawa agree to bolster cooperation
28 November 2015, Nirapad News: Bangladesh and Canada have agreed to further bolster bilateral cooperation as the foreign ministers of the two countries held talks in Malta on Thursday on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
“It was their first meeting following the formation of new cabinet in Canada,” a foreign ministry statement said here today.
It said Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali exchanged views with Canadian Foreign Minister Stephane Dion on the Commonwealth and ways of making it more dynamic and discussed bilateral matters.
Ali apprised his new Canadian counterpart of how the government of Bangladesh has been able to effectively deal with the problems of extremism and radicalisation.
He also briefed him on the measures and initiatives of the government taken in the aftermath of the killings of bloggers and foreign nationals.
Ali highlighted how Bangladesh was making steady progress in economic growth, socioeconomic development, women empowerment and other areas under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Canadian foreign minister invited his Bangladesh counterpart to visit Canada at a mutually convenient date and he accepted the invitation with pleasure, the statement said.
