The Bangladesh government will purchase 1.5 crore doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine at a lower price than mentioned in the previous agreement.

A proposal in this regard was approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday.

Later, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement that a total of 15 million doses — the remaining 13 million from the previous agreement with Sinopharm and two million newly proposed — will be purchased at a lower price than previously agreed.

Earlier, on May 27, the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase approved a proposal of purchasing 1.5 crore doses of SARS Cov-2 vaccine directly from China Sinopharm.

Meanwhile, 20 lakh doses of vaccine bought from China have reached the country. Besides, Bangladesh has received 11 lakh doses of Sinopharm vaccine from China as gift.
