DU confers ‘Ataus Samad Award’ to journo Tawab Khan
23 November 2015, Nirapad News: Eminent journalist Tawab Khan has been awarded “Ataus Samad Memorial Trust Lifetime Achievement Award” for his outstanding contribution to develop journalism profession in the country.
Besides, five meritorious students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University (DU) have received Ataus Samad Trust scholarship for their brilliant academic results in BSS examination of 2015.
Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique handed over the awards as chief guest at a function was held at the Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium at Faculty of Social Sciences of the university. DU Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department organized the programme.
Prof Shaikh Abdus Salam of MCJ department delivered the memorial lecture on ‘Ataus Samad: A renowned Journalist’.
In his speech, the vice-chancellor urged journalists to follow the ideals of late journalist Ataus Samad. “Publication of the truth is the main principle of journalism profession. Therefore, journalists will have to work hard to publish the truth in the society,” he said.
The recipients of ‘Ataus Samad Memorial Scholarship’ are M Shafiqul Islam, Ananda Kumar Shil, Farzana Akter, Fahima Ahmed Kachi and Dulal Samadder.
Late journalist ABM Musa donated money to introduce Ataus Samad Memorial Trust Fund at the university.
