DUJ demands formation of 9th wage board

23 November 2015, Nirapad News: Two factions of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) on Monday demanded formation of the ninth wage board for journalists and employees.

They also demanded immediate implementation of the 8th wage board award in those media outlets where it has not been implemented yet and formation of a committee for implementing it, if needed.

DUJ leaders — acting president of a faction Atiqur Rahman Chowdhury and its general secretary Kuddus Afrad, and president of another faction Elahi Newaz Khan Saju and its general secretary Khairul Alam Bakul — came up with the demands in a joint statement.

In their statement, they urged the journalists to uphold the dignity of the profession through forging a greater unity among them.

The union leaders also demanded announcement of Baisakhai (Pahela Baisakh) allowance for the journalists and an acceptable online and broadcast policy.

Expressing grave concern over militant activities, bigotry and communalism, the DUJ leaders urged the journalist community to play a role in upholding democracy and maintaining freedom of media.
