DUJ expresses concern over journo termination
07 March 2015, Nirapad News: Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) at a meeting here today expressed deep concern over the prevailing situation in different media outlets where journalists have been terminated and meager wages offered to them instead of implementing the eighth wage board award.
With DUJ President Altaf Mahmud in the chair, the meeting adopted a number of resolutions and condemned the termination of journalists in different media outlets and forcing of newsmen by the authorities concerned to sign the salary sheets.
The DUJ said owners of different newspapers are also terminating working journalists one after another without any reason, creating an unstable situation in the newspaper industry.
The DUJ leaders urged the Eighth Wage Board Monitoring Cell and the government to take effective steps to stop journalists’ harassment. Otherwise, they said, the DUJ will go for an all-out movement for realizing its demands.
Expressing deep concern over the ongoing political anarchy by an identified quarter, the meeting also demanded of the government to stop petrol-bomb attacks and condemned the recent attacks on journalists and vehicles of different media houses, including Desh TV, Bhorer Kagoj and Ekattor TV.
General Secretary of DUJ Quddus Afrad, office-bearers, executive committee members and chiefs of different units of DUJ were present.
The meeting adopted an obituary reference to journalists Aminul Haque Badsha, Jaglul Ahmed Chowdhury, Azizur Rahim Piew, Ahmed Kafil, Mir Mohiuddin Shohan, Hossain Zakir and Dipen Chowdhury.
It observed a one-minute silence in memory of the late journalists and conveyed deep sympathies to the bereaved families.
