charge (OCs) of Jagannathpur, Hatia and Ishwarganj that they played a biased role ahead of the December-30 municipal
The EC on Monday directed the Superintendents of Police and the Returning Officers concerned to investigate the
allegations against the OCs, EC Deputy Secretary Shamsul Alam told.
The SPs and Returning Officers were asked to send their reports to the Commission after their investigations into the
allegations, he added.
The three OCs allegedly played a biased role in Jagannathpur Municipality of Sunamganj, Hatia Municipality of Noakhali and
Ishwarganj Municipality of Mymensingh.
Earlier, the EC withdrew three other OCs — Md Kabir Hossain of Matlab Uttar Police of Chandpur, Matiar Rahman of Kulaura
Police of Moulvibazar and Kripa Sundar Bala of Kalkini of Madaripur — for their alleged biased role in Chhengarchar,
Kulaura and Kalkini municipalities ahead of the election.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission on Monday disposed of three allegations, lodged against three ruling Awami League MPs,
warning them not to repeat the violation of the election code of conduct in the future, said an EC official wishing
The three MPs are Shafiqul Islam Shimul from Natore-2 constituency, MA Maleque from Dhaka-20 and Showkat Hasanur Rahman
Rimon from Barguna-2.
As the MPs apologised for breaching the election code in their replies to show-cause notices issued by the EC, it relieved
them of the charges just warning them, the official said.
On December 3, Maleque and Shimul accompanied AL mayoral candidates during submission of their nomination papers of the
municipal polls, while Showkat carried the party’s nomination ticket of AL aspirant from Dhaka to Barguna by helicopter.
