Ensure equal rights of girl child for development
13 October 2015, Nirapad News: There is no alternative to completely the social mindset for ensuring safety, security and equal rights of the girl child to make them worthy citizens for attaining sustainable national development.
The observation was made at a post-rally discussion arranged at Public Library auditorium on Monday to observe the National Girl Child Day-2015 with the theme ‘Safe environment for girl children will make the future Bangladesh prosperous.’
The district unit of National Girl Child Advocacy Forum with the assistance of The Hunger Project organised various daylong programs including rally, discussion, drawing competitions and prize giving ceremony in the city.
The day was observed during the three-day observance of the World Child Day and Child Rights Day-2015 from October 11 to 13 in the country as elsewhere in the globe.
The district administration, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Jatiyo Mohila Sangstha, different NGOs and organisations have also chalked out programmes for creating mass public awareness on ensuring fundamental rights of the girl child.
The programme included bringing out of colourful rallies, forming human chains and discussion meetings, cultural functions and screening documentary films on rights of girl child and universal child rights.
In yesterday’s rally hundreds of the girl students, teachers, officials, activists of different NGOs, women and human rights workers, sociocultural activists, professionals, civil society members and elite took part.
Later, President of district unit of National Girl Child Advocacy Forum Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu presided over the post-rally discussion at Public Library auditorium in the city.
Secretary of district unit of Sushashoner Janno Nagorik (SHJUJAN) valiant freedom fighter Akbar Hossain, its Secretary Sajjad Haider Swadhin, Secretary of district unit of National Girl Child Advocacy Forum Naznin Nahar, women leaders Dilara Hossain Dulari, Iffat Ara, addressed as the invited guests.
Senior photojournalist Asaduzzaman Afzal, students of Rangpur Police Lines School & College Masrina Masud Ratiya, Zerin Tasnim Zim, also addressed the occasion.
The speakers called for ensuring education, health care, equal rights, safety and security of every girl child, stopping early marriage and all sorts of violence against children to make them worthy citizens in the greater national interest.
They said the girl child must enjoy equal constitutional and human rights to become worthy citizens for equally contributing to every sphere of the social, political economic and national arena in accelerating socioeconomic, social and political advancement.
They suggested for extending all assistance to the girl child for flourishing their latent talents to eradicate the prevailing discrimination and inequality to ensure their safety-security and equal participation in the nation building activities.
They lauded the various programmes like free education, stipend, free textbook, increasing number of female teachers and raising maternity allowance being implemented by the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for welfare of the girl children to take the nation ahead.
