Ensuring women empowerment stressed
7 October 2015, Nirapad News: Speakers at a workshop on Tuesday stressed the need for ensuring women participation in the committee at different level and decision making bodies for their empowerment.
“As the country’s half population is women, it is quite impossible to push forward the nation towards desired progress without empowerment of the women folk”, they said.
They made the comments while addressing a workshop on “Flourishing women leadership and socio-economic empowerment of women folk” held at the conference room of Fulchhari upazila parishad of the district yesterday.
Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), a local NGO, organized the workshop under Resilience Improvement of Vulnerable Extreme Riparian project funded by Christian Aid.
UNO Mustafizur Rahman addressed the workshop as the chief guest while female vice chairman of Fulchhari upazila parishad Rasheda Begum presided over the function.
The workshop was also addressed, among others, by Fulchhari union parishad (UP) chairman Abdus Sabur, Urya UP chairman Abdul Hamid, and Fazlupur UP member Rokeya Begum.
Project manager Protima Chakrabarty in her address of welcome said all of us should change mindset and help the women to access the existing facilities of the government to change their social status.
An importance should be given on the women in case of decision making in the family and social arena to build a women friendly society, she also said.
UNO Mustafizur Rahman in his speech urged all concerned to come forward with the mentality to build women friendly environment in the society for their empowerment.
The UNO also emphasized on building social movement against gender disparity to flourish the women leadership at all levels to speed up the sustainable development of the nation.
A good number of women coming from different areas of the upazila took part in the workshop.
