Ex-CJ Amin Chowdhury supports SK Sinha
10 February 2016, Nirapad News: Former chief justice Mahmudul Amin Chowdhury has lent support to incumbent top judge SK Sinha who recently drew flak from a retired justice after taking stance against judges’ post-retirement writing of judgments.
Amin Chowdhury has also urged lawyers to be united and rally support for Chief Justice Sinha.
Speaking at a discussion titled ‘The independence of the judiciary and the prevailing situation’ at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium on Tuesday, he told lawyers, “Unite and save the country.”
“The incumbent chief justice is trying to bring the judiciary back on the right track. Please support him,” he said.
Renowned lawyer Dr Kamal Hossain said also called for unity among lawyers.
He said, “Do politics and be ministers if you wish. But please do not act as anyone’s agents. Stay united, irrespective of party affiliation, to save the judiciary.”
Retired Appellate Division judge AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury has kept criticising Sinha after the latter called ‘unconstitutional’ the writing of judgments after going into retirement.
On Monday, he urged the chief justice to quit after he, Choudhury, was kept from submitting the judgments he wrote post-retirement.
