Exemplary punishment for child repressors: Prime Minister
8 August 2015, Nirapad News: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said the culprits behind the recent incidents of child repression will not be spared as they will be given exemplary punishment for their crimes.
“We’ll have to ensure exemplary punishment to show people that no one is spared if one commits crimes,” she said.
The Prime Minister was speaking at a function organised by Women and Child Affairs Ministry at Osmani Memorial Auditorium marking the 85th birth anniversary of Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, the wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was killed along with most of her family members, including Bangabandhu, on the fateful night of August 15, 1975.
Chaired by State Minister for Women and Child Affairs Minister Meher Afroz Chumki, the function was addressed, among others, by chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Women and Child Affairs Ministry Rebeca Momen, MP, BanglaAcademy director general Dr Shamsuzzaman Khan, Chairman of Jatiya Mahila Sangstha Prof Momtaj Begum and Bangladesh Shishu Academy Chairperson Selina Hossain.
The Prime Minister said she has already given the directives to the authorities concerned to take their appropriate actions against the child repressors.
Hasina also said she had a meeting with the Home Minister, the Law Minister and the Home Secretary in this regard.
“I’ve told them to take proper steps to ensure exemplary punishment to those who will get involved in such incidents of child repression,” Hasina said.
The Prime Minister came up with the remarks at a time when the incidents of child repression and murder are reported from different parts of the country.
