About extension of ongoing strict lockdown across the country, the state minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on Sunday said, “There are restrictions until July 14. The government has an advisory committee on Covid-19. If they think the ongoing restrictions need to be extended, then it should be extended.”

Everything depends on the situation, added the state minister.

He told this to reporters at his office in the Secretariat in Dhaka.

Regarding the ferry operation in lockdown, Khalid Mahmud said, “We did not suspended the ferry and it is running. Ambulances, law enforcement agencies and government need movement through the ferries. That is why it will continue.”

The state minister said, “A lot of people went on the ferry last year, huge people gathering was seen. We were strict in passenger crossing. We are still in that position. However, this time action will be taken as per the decision of the local administration.”

He further said, “If we survive then many Eids will come in life. We can get back to normal life if we can conquer Coronavirus.”
