FBI holds talks with CID over Avijit murder
09 March 2015, Nirapad News: The four-member US team of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) today held talks with Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over investigation into the murder of writer-blogger Avijit Roy.
“FBI team held a meeting today with Crime Scene Party personnel of the CID who collected different elements from the spot where Avijit had been brutally murdered,” told Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Detective Branch (south) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) .
They later held talks with the Detective Branch (DB) of police, he said, adding, “FBI personnel will mainly give us technical support to this end.”
The FBI team led by Dan Cleg arrived in Dhaka on March 5 to assist the local police in conducting the investigation into the murder of Avijit, a Bangladeshi born US citizen.
They visited the murder site on Friday and held talks with Avijit’s father Ajoy Roy the next day.
Earlier February 26, a gang of miscreants stabbed Avijit to death and seriously injured his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonnya on Dhaka University campus.
In a statement, US Department of State expressed its desire to assist the investigation into the Avijit murder saying that Washington was ready to assist the investigation into the brutal killing. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Interpol personnel helped the investigation of August 21, 2004 grenade attacks in Dhaka, January 27, 2005 attacks in Habiganj and the attack on the then British High Commissioner Anwar Choudhury in 2004.
