FBI team in Dhaka to start investigation from Friday
5 March 2015, Nirapad News: A team of US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrived in Dhaka on Thursday morning to start investigation from Friday into the murder of blogger Avijit Roy.
“A four-member FBI team will help investigate into the murder of Avijit,” Krishna Pada Roy, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Detective Branch (south) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told the press.
“The FBI team will assist Bangladesh police into the murder of blogger Avijit Roy’s investigation, and they held informal talks with DB personnel on Thursday,” he added.
Earlier on Thursday night, a gang of miscreants stabbed Bangladeshi-born US citizens Avijit to death and seriously injured his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonnya on Dhaka University campus.
In a statement, US Department of State expressed its desire to assist the investigation into the Avijit murder saying that Washington was ready to assist the investigation into the brutal killing.
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Interpol personnel helped the investigation of August 21, 2004 grenade attacks in Dhaka, January 27, 2005 attacks in Habiganj and the attack on the then British High Commissioner Anwar Choudhury in 2004.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court earlier granted 10-day remand to Shafiur Rahman Farabi, prime suspect in the assassination of progressive writer Avijit Roy.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Farabi, who was accused of issuing death threats to Avijit several times, from the city’s Jatrabari area on March 2, a day after the assassination of Avijit.
