FBI visits Avijit Roy’s murder spot at Dhaka University
6 March 2015, Nirapad News: Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has carried out their field investigation on Friday to assist Detective Branch (DB) of police investigate the murder of US citizen and Bangladeshi blogger Avijit Roy.
Krishnapada Ray, Deputy Commissioner (detective branch) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, accompanied the team during the visit to the murder scene near the Teacher Student Center (TSC) intersection of Dhaka University.
After visiting the killing spot, Krishnapada Roy told the press that investigation in Avijit killing will continue with the assistance of FBI, the leading investigation agency of the United States of America.
The team came to Bangladesh to help police and if any major progress happened in the investigation media will be briefed then, the commissioner added.
At first, the four-member FBI team visited the Suhrawardy Udyan, extended venue of Amar Ekushey Book Fair, around 1:30pm and stayed awhile there. Later, the team went to Bangla Academy premises, followed by a visit to the crime scene.
On February 26, unidentified assailants hacked to death mukto-mona.com founding blogger and writer Avijit and seriously injured his wife Rafida Ahmed Banna at TSC intersection on DU premises when the couple come out of the book fair.
The following day, US offered its assistance in the investigation, condemning the brutal killing. A day after, Bangladesh government welcomed the US offer on March 1.
Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion on March 2 arrested religious fanatic Farabi Shafiur Rahman, who previously threatened Avijit to death on social media multiple times. Farabi is now severing a 10-days remand under police custody.
