Fempower a seminar to boost women’s morale and self defense camp held
4 October 2015, Nirapad News: A seminar was held in Dhaka as part of a campaign to boost the morale of women and teach them basic self-defense moves so that they can protect themselves in any untoward situation.
The seminar, titled ‘Fempower’, was organised by Footsteps, a youth organisation, at International School Dhaka (ISD) in Baridhara.
Successful women in different professions, including entrepreneurs, software engineers, social workers, community mobilisers and fashion designers, attended as guest speakers and shared their experiences and views at the seminar.
Speakers urged women especially young ones to move forward braving all sorts of obstacles and prejudices. They also stressed empowering women to overcome all challenges in a male-dominated society like Bangladesh.
Executive Director of Acid Survivours Foundation Selina Ahmed, owner of Moon’s Boutique Nasrin Jahan Munmun, founder of Critical Link Jennifer Farrell, programme officer of Daak Nadia Lakhani, founder of Leaping Boundaries Shagufe Hossain, managing director of Footsteps Nahiyan Naser, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Students of different schools, universities and their guardians attended the seminar.
